Mechanical carriage clocks

mechanical carriage clock

Our range of Woodford and David Peterson Mechanical Carriage clocks are now sadly out of stock across the UK. As soon as new models are released in Spring 2015 we will be proud to stock them again.

Mechanical carriage clocks are a wonderful way to measure time. Their delicate tick and precise tick comes from a key wound mechanism that has not changed in design for over 150 years. Designed to be the first conveniently portable timepiece, the carriage clock came to popularity in Napoleonic times, often called an Officer's Clock, a gentleman would not travel on a long journey without a carriage clock as part of their luggage.

On a full wind of the brass key, one of our clocks will run for 8 days, they are a joy & pleasure to own. We bring you clocks from two of England's fine clocks makers, Woodford (Est. 1860) & David Peterson Clocks - who have been making fine carriage clocks since the 1970s.
