Mycroft Holmes regards his Woodford silver pocket watch.
Sherlock’s brother observes the time with his Woodford Pocket Watch. Mycroft and Sherlock were just youngsters when Woodford was founded in 1860 (Well Sherlock was 6yrs, Mycroft a little older). Glad to say Woodford are still going strong today and are one of the UK’s premier pocket watch makers. A much appreciated fact by collectors and the makers of the BBC’s ‘Sherlock’ series. Sherlock had to say of his brother ‘He has no ambition and no energy. He will not even go out of his way to verify his own solutions, and would rather be considered wrong than take the trouble to prove himself right. Again and again I have taken a problem to him, and have received an explanation which has afterwards proved to be the correct one. And yet he was absolutely incapable of working out the practical points…’ Smarter but lazy may be the short version.
Mycroft’s job in the British government is a little hazy, but on one occasion Sherlock remarks to Watson.. “Occasionally he is the British government […] the most indispensable man in the country.”
So what Woodford pocket watch might myscroft wear? Well my guess is a Sterling Silver Full Hunter Pocket watch. Not the cheapest of the range by any means but for a man of taste and status a Sterling Silver watch would be the order of the day.
