  • What is the difference between Sterling Silver and Silver Plate?

Sterling Silver is solid silver of a certain purity.  The UK Assay Office examines the silver and it receives a stamp of 925. This is 92.5% pure silver. Silver Plate is brass usually with a have electro-plate of silver on the top of the brass. Both look wonderful and similar of course, however Sterling is of course solid silver.

92.5 percent silver is used as it allows for another metal to be added to make the silver harder than pure 100% silver. This better for items like chains.
